The followers of Shafi’i sect of Islam established their first mosque in Pakistan in 1960. They had migrated from India. Shafi’i Muslims’ arrival in the Indian sub-continent had started with the arrival of traders, who mainly settled in Mumbai and Kerala, among other areas. Majority of those adhering to this school of thought are settled in Malaysia, Indonesia, Hijaz, Egypt, and Africa. In Pakistan, there are only four mosques administered by followers of Shafi’i Islam.
