On December 8, 1958, Gwadar was gifted to the government of Pakistan by the forty eighth Imam of the Ismaili community, Prince Ali Salman Mohammad Shah, for $ 3 million in cooperation with the Ismaili community of Gwadar. Gwadar was sold by the King of Muscat on one condition that the Gwadaris be allowed recruitment in Omanese army. Omani era buildings still exist in Gwadar.
